Jordi Torres is Full Professor of Computer Architecture at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC Barcelona Tech), where for more than three decades he has combined teaching and research in the field of advanced computing. Throughout his academic career, he has contributed to the education of several generations of engineers, combining university teaching with research and institutional responsibility.
A member of the founding team of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), he created and led a research group within the Computer Science Department and has contributed to the scientific and technological evolution of the center since its early years. His research career has followed the evolution of major computing paradigms, from distributed systems and cloud computing to big data and, more recently, artificial intelligence.
Over the last decade, this trajectory has naturally converged at the intersection of supercomputing and artificial intelligence, with a particular interest in how High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructures enable modern AI. He is currently a Senior Researcher at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and serves as Expert Advisor on HPC for AI to the center’s executive leadership.
Author or co-author of more than 200 scientific publications and several books, his career combines research, applied computing, collaboration with industry, and a sustained commitment to teaching.
At this stage of his career, his work is particularly focused on teaching, research, and scientific and strategic advisory, bringing the perspective accumulated over decades of computing evolution to the emerging challenges of supercomputing and artificial intelligence.
